The OEM seat belt guide mounted to my Hard Dog roll bar causes the belt to kink and not retract smoothly. I thought the Car Make Corn’s seat shoulder covers would help, and they do look cool and prevent the seat belt from being lost behind the seat, but they don’t help with retraction. Boss Frog used to make upgraded seat belt guides for their roll bars before they stopped production. Luckily, Izzy’s Metal Shop in Kirkwood, Missouri still makes replicas of the old Boss Frog design.
A dirty seat belt also causes uneven retraction, I tried cleaning it before opting for the upgraded belt guide, but it didn’t help in my case.

The old seat belt guide causes the belt to twist and catch as it retracts.

The new seat belt guide has an opening large enough to slide onto the old belt, with the buckle tongue passing through. Definitely made sure to test this before destroying the original belt guide.

It’s not necessary to unbolt the seat belt retractor or remove it from the car.

The hacksaw would have worked, but it was slow going.

The belt guide steel is pretty springy, it’s easy to pry open and slide the belt out.

The before/after probably speaks for itself, but this replacement belt guide worked perfectly for me and now the seat belt retracts smoothly 👍

I also rubbed some paste wax into the Car Make Corn’s shoulder strap where the belt passes through. I don’t think it made much of a difference.
