It’s no secret that the Miata was not designed for tall drivers. One of the most obvious signs is how the stock door handle presses into anyone with long legs. Mazda reworked the door between the NA6 and NA8 models. They changed the styling and removed the arm rest, but they did not fix how far the handle sticks out into the passenger area. The easiest way to fix this problem is to replace each handle with a flat strap or loop pull. There are some nice options from most of the Miata parts shops, but this $3 strap from Parts-Express is the best looking inexpensive option.

These $3 straps are designed to be mounted to speakers or amplifiers, but they have the perfect form factor to replace Miata door handles. The only other parts this project needs are some screws painted black. It’s cheap, but the results are great.
